Xmas gifts? Travelling, travelling, travelling

14 December, 2015

The year is about to end and most of us are just thinking about Christmas presents. However, it is not that easy to make a present. Let’s think about it.

Should be presents something that we need or desire? Something tangible or something more personal and emotional? Horses for courses but something is clear: travelling is worthwhile.

Usually come to mind travelling abroad, discovering new cultures, exotic food, stunning beaches and so on. However, do we have to go out of Spain to live all these experiences? It is an option, but not a requirement.

“People travel to faraway places to watch, in fascination, the kind of people they ignore at home. ” – Dagobert D. Runes

Spain has been occupied by many different cultures, the geography has nothing to do from the south to the north, a more diverse dining in the national picture than in comparison to Central Europe and we bet that you still have many points unvisited in our beloved homeland.

Probably the next question that come to mind is: sea or mountain? No need to choose. Here some destinations where to enjoy both of them in any season.

  • Alpujarra in Granada. A unique natural spot plenty of mineral springs, the National Park of Sierra Nevada and less than half an hour from the beach. You cannot miss a getaway to the Alhambra.
  • Although the north is not usually associated to beaches, the Spanish North coast is plenty of beautiful sea spots. Actually, in 2007 The Guardian named Galician beach Islas Cíes as the best beach in the world. It is a good moment to organize a route including hiking, beaches and natural environment. Asturias, Galicia, Cantabria and so so on. Not to mentioned the great offer for surf lovers.

  • Tenerife: great weather the whole year, lovely beaches and a strong contrast from the north to the south of the island.
  • Levant is always such a good choice. One of the most picturesque towns is El Castell de Guadalest (Alicante) with its own castle, stunning views and a beautiful lake.
  •  Remaining in the Mediterranean, Catalonia also gives us multiple options. One recommendation: Cadaqués in the province of girona. A fishing village almost isolated until 19th-century. Some celebrities such as Duchamp, Picasso, Miró or Dalí were long stays there.

  • Mallorca and the spectacular Serra de Tramuntana declared Worth Heritage by UNESCO, a countless gastronomic offer and cultural diversity. Beaches are stunning and you will find a lot of rural hotels and private villas where to enjoy the most calm and natural face of the island. Soller, Dèia or Selva are some of the most significant towns.
  • Menorca still preserves its essence. The island has a low relief and Monte Toro, the tallest hill, is less than 400 m high. Menorca will bring you the opportunity to enjoy peace, turquoise water beaches, picturesque towns and a rich archeological patrimony. The best: the dimension of the island will allow you to enjoy almost every corner even if is not a long stay.
