AN INSIDER ON MAHÓN, THE CAPITAL OF MENORCA

29 April, 2016

Mahón is the capital of Menorca, the most important city in the island and through the history it has been an object of dispute due to its natural port—the world’s second-largest natural harbor.

The Harbor is Mahón flagship and it is a must to sail the Mediterranean from it and admire the islands from the sea.

  • WHAT TO DO

Mahón blends colonial trace with Mediterranean air. This is Mahón’s idiosyncrasy.

La Mola Fortress is a must visit. This 19th-century fortress is perfectly preserved. We recommend a guide visit to discover all the stories inside its walls.

Just some kilometers away, in Es Castell, there is another fortress, a British one: Marlborough Fort. It will be quite interesting to compare both fortress.

S’Albufera des Grau, the most important natural park in the island is an ideal option for nature and hiking lovers. We recommend to end up the visit in Favàritx lighthouse.

Talayotic Menorca is another must in your visit.

Menorca is culture and you can breathe it in every single corner of its capital. Mahón celebrates its International Opera Week, where the Museum of Menorca is and its opera theatre is one of the most antique ones in Spain.
