CA NA TONETA: Homemade and ecological cuisine in Caimari

21 October, 2015

Solivellas Sisters, chef María and Teresa front-of-house, always professional and charming, run CA NA TONETA. This restaurant features homemade food, local and ecological, inspired in traditional Majorcan recipes. As María defined to us, her cuisine aim is to bring back local products to make them be recognized and valued.

CA NA TONETA offer a weekly gourmet sampling menu composed of 2 appetizers, a starter, meat, fish and dessert.

In our visit to the restaurant, María pleasantly surprised us with a picornells (mushrooms) soup with botifarró (typical local sausage) and quail egg; grilled peppers, llampuga (fish) tartar with watercress of torrent. Just exquisite.

We tasted one of her famous “coca” (thin and crunchy bread) made with flour of xeixa (local wheat) and topped with aubergine cooked over coals and pomegranates. It is not a revelation that the restaurant also sell its “cocas” in “La Coquería” in Santa Catalina market.

Fish course consisted of Negret with camagrocs (mushrooms), potato muslin and liquefied parsley. Simply spectacular, one of the best elaborated fishes that we have tasted while ago: white meaty and smooth texture, reminding us to shellfish or grouper, with a soft flavor, deep and subtle. María surprised us again with a stewed beef with potato foam. The finale were rich desserts elaborated with loving care.
